West Brom Furious over Fixtures
West Bromwich Albion have made an official complaint to the Premier League about the fixture schedule this season.
The Baggies have also requested that today’s away game at West Ham be postponed.
Albion is furious that they are expected to play two matches within 48 hours of each other, while West Ham has had a week since their last game on Boxing Day.
This difference in rest time puts West Brom at a distinct disadvantage for a match which is crucial to their battle against relegation.
However, the Hammers will face a second match in 48 hours as they play Tottenham, who will also be playing a second match in two days, on 4 January.
The Baggies have submitted medical evidence to support their complaint, saying that playing twice in the space of 48 hours severely increases the risk of injury to players.
All Premier League clubs were told at the start of the season that the schedule would be crowded due to the need to fit in an extra round of games, because of an early finish for the World Cup.
